Make your own Superhero

Yesterday we learned how to create a superhero and write some descriptions of them.  Today, you will upload a superhero to your digital workbook.
Go to this link
http://www.heromachine.com/heromachine-3-lab/
And create your hero.  Then save a picture of them.
Next, go to your digital workbook and load the picture into a new post on your writing tab.  You will write good description of them.  Think about questions that start with these words.
Who?  What?  Why?   When?   Where?  How?

For example.  What is their name.  What is their special power?  How did they get their powers?  Where do they live?  Why do they do nice/ nasty things?  How do they help people?  etc. etc.

Try to use similes as well as longer sentences and powerful adjectives.  For example....His arms are as strong as two steel bridges and he can lift a truck above his head without breaking a sweat!

Have fun!

Auckland Botanic Gardens

This week we went on a school trip to Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manukau.  It was a really exciting day and we learned lots of interesting things, escecially about how different plants adapt to their environment.  This means that some plants, like cacti, have changed over a long time to survive in the place where you find them.  We found out that lots of plants in NZ have small leaves and spiky branches because browser birds, like moas would come along and eat all of the bigger juicer leaves.  So over time, the plants with the smaller leaves and the spikier branches got eaten less.  Interesting stuff!

We also got to plant our very own cactus seed into our plant pots which we have taken home.  Fingers crossed that they grow!

Forest Storm

This is a video of a storm in a rainforest.

We are going to use it to come up with some great vocabulary for a poem.

Imagine you were in the forest.  What would you see, hear, smell and feel before the storm?  Now imagine the storm is starting, what can you sense now?  Finally, imagine that the storm is over, what would you sense?

Share some of your favourite words using the padlet below...

Still Here!

You may have noticed that our blog hasn't had an update for over a week!  However, that doesn't mean we haven't been busy, we have been secretly making our art for the Art Trail that starts tomorrow.  We have also been doing some fabulous information reports about our work.  Today we made a Fotobabble to go with our writing.  These will end up on our digital workbooks on Friday, but you can get a sneak preview of a few of them below....

Clay Day!

Today Anna Dixon an artist, came to help us sculpt some shapes.  We were all given a piece of mushy clay.  We made sculptures out of it.  We made fat pieces and flat pieces.  It was fantastic, squishy and fun at the same time.  After that we drew some designs and painted some rocks.
Some of us made Maori rock sculptures by using a special plaster mix on to some large rocks.
Everybody had great ideas.  Check out some of our pictures.

Time to Learn

Today we started to learn how to tell the time.  We looked at a couple of really cool website to help us and you can see these tabs on the side of the blog (Bang on Time is a lot of fun!)
We have also been looking at each others digital workbooks and leaving comments on what we like about them.  You can have a look for yourself by clicking one of the names on the right of the blog.
This afternoon we spent some time outside examining trees and leaves in detail.  We did some bark rubbings and ended up with some really interesting pictures.
