Reading Challenege Begins!

Today in Room 11 we started a reading challenge.  We have to read at least 10 books from our box to complete the challenge.  Some books are short and we can read them in one day, others take longer and might take a week to finish.

This afternoon we played another game of 'Socket' - we're getting pretty good and the best thing is that it is our game so we can keep changing the rules whenever we like!  Today we played Table Vs Table and gave everybody 2 turns instead of 1.

Adjectives - Day 2!

Today we used fotobabble again to practice our use of adjectives.  Only this time we didn't write anything down first.  We thought it would be easy but it turned out that it was pretty hard to come up with adjectives when the microphone started recording!  Have a listen and leave us a comment to tell us how well you think we did!

Our Weekends

Room 11 have been thinking about their weekends.  We wrote recounts and tried really hard to use conjunctions and adjectives because we want our writing to be as interesting as possible.  Listen to Kennedy and John reading their stories and see if you can spot the adjectives and conjunctions.

SOCKET!

Today room 11 invented a new game.  We call it, 'Socket'.  It is a cross between soccer and cricket.
For today's blog, room 11 are going to explain how the game works.

All you really need is a bouncy ball and more than 6 people on each team.
One person throws the ball and another person kicks it as far as they can.  The fielding team has to bring the ball back, meanwhile the person who kicked it has to run from one tree and back again.  How many times they run there and back is how many points they get.

You should not fight about the points or about the way people are playing.

If you don't have two trees to use then you can use cones,  draw two lines, shoes or some clothes.

Today's pictures were taken by Maja and Nazca.

Diving in the deep end!

This Friday was a fun day.  We spent some time with Mr Miller in the morning and then we were fortunate enough to have Mr Cain visit us to take our weekly spelling test!  After morning tea we had sport with Mr Paine and then dance with Mrs MacCrae.  She taught us all about circle dances.
This afternoon we all went to the Parnell Baths.  We got to put on life jackets and jump in the big pool.  It was a bit scary at first but it was great fun.  We learnt that if we are ever caught in the ocean, then we should link arms with other people and float on our back so that rescue helicopters can find us.  Hopefully this is one lesson we never have to use!  After that we were allowed to jump off the diving board.  Take a look at our awesome action pictures!

Swimming tomorrow!

It was a different kind of day today.  Mr Miller was busy helping other teachers and so today we had Mr Paine teaching us!

In the morning we did a handwriting sample.  We had to write a poem called, 'Bumble Bee' in our best writing.  Our finished work looks really cool.

After morning tea we went to 'World of Maths' with Room 1.  We played lots of different maths games and had a lot of fun learning.

Tomorrow is Friday, which means that we have to remember to bring our homework to school.  Some of us have brought it back early and made Mr Miller very happy!

We also have to remember our togs because we are swimming from 1.30-2.30 tomorrow.

Parents, please remember that you are invited to 'Meet the Teacher' at 3.45 in Room 11.  There is also a picnic on the field afterwards.

Swimming!

Today we all had lots of fun.  The first thing we did was learn that blowing bubbles is a bad idea because you will sink! Una's favourite part was going into the big pool because diving to the bottom for the teacher's sunglasses was awesome!

Oscar's favourite bit was going into the big grown up pool  because it was so deep and he was excited.

John had a great and awesome day because he joined room 11 and had a new teacher!

Charlotte's favourite part was going into the deep pool because it got colder and colder as it got deeper and deeper.

Our next swimming time is friday.  We have switched times so that we are swimming from 1.30 to 2.30

The Soccer Game

Today was brilliant because we played soccer.  Football NZ came to our school to teach us a few things.  They wanted to see if any of us were interested in joining their club.  We played lots of different games like shark attack, cowboys, cowgirls and Indians. We all liked these games.

We have been learning about homework this afternoon.  We have to learn 10 words.  We have to write them into sentences.  For example, one of our words is 'Mr Miller.' So we could write the sentence, 'Mr Miller is cool!'
We have chosen a reading book to take home.  We have to read for about 15 minutes each night.  When we finish our book we have to bring it back to school and swap it!
Finally, we have to remember that this week we are going to Parnell Baths on Tuesday AND Friday.  No togs = no swimming!

Look at me look at me!

Today we made self-portraits.  We took pictures of ourselves and then we printed them out really big.  We drew around the outline in vivid and coloured them in.  Then we cut them out and stuck them onto a coloured piece of paper.

Una thought that it was fun when we turned the picture round and saw the back of it.
Hugo liked adding all the detail onto the coloured paper.
Sid thought we looked a bit like zombies or skeletons!

First Day

Today was the first day back at school.  This is what we thought of it...

Kennedy thought it was amazing.  Lukardia thought it was cool.  Nayna thought it was really good.  Isabella thought her first day at Parnell was really fun and she made lots of new friends.  Caleb liked it too because he had a desk.  Una liked it because she could see her friends again.  Hugo thought it was awesome because he was dying to get back.  Sid thought it was too hot!  Jamie thought it was fun to do the posters about ourselves.  Jesse was having an amazing day until he fell off the flying fox and it was ruined!  Maja thought the day was cold!  Maha thought it was interesting because she got to use all of her new things.
