Room 11 have been busy today. In writing we have been learning how to organise our ideas into paragraphs. We took our notes about cats and wrote them into sentences, keeping all the facts about habitat together, all the facts about diet together and so on. This was the first time we had done this so Mr Miller was really pleased when everyone managed it so well.
In maths we have been looking at strategies for adding up. Some groups have been doing sums like
135 + 242. We added up the hundreds, tens and ones separately and then found our result = 377. However, we had to be careful with numbers that added up to more than 10. Like, 35 + 36. 30 + 30 = 60 but 5 + 6 = 11. So the answer is 71.
Some groups have been solving sums like 136 + ? = 193 by adding up and then adjusting. E.g.
136 + 60 = 196 which is 3 too much.
so 136 + 57 = 193
Clever stuff!
