Nogards

This week in reading we have been learning how to visualise.  When we read a story we can close our eyes and use our imagination to picture what the author wrote.  This can help us understand what is going on.  This is a picture of a Nogard.  We all read the description below and drew what we visualised.

What is a nogard?
The nogard is an animal. It has an oval-shaped body. It has a long neck and tail. The top of the neck, back and tail are covered with a row of triangular-shaped plates. The nogard’s head is shaped like a long triangle. It has big eyes and eyebrows that stick out. It also has big nostrils. Its body is covered with scales. The nogard has four short legs. At the end of each leg is a foot with five toes. Each toe has a sharp claw at the end. The nogard has two wings attached to its body. These are located behind the front legs towards the top of its back. Nogards are usually green but change to a deep purple during the winter months.

T Ball

Today we learned how to play T-Ball.  Some of us missed the ball but then we hit it.  Some of us got hurt by slipping over but we weren't hurt too bad.  We all felt happy because we all got a turn hitting the ball and defending it.  There were no serious arguments either, which was nice!  It felt good to hit the ball really hard.  We are looking forward to having another turn soon!

Swimming!

Today we went to the Parnell Baths.  The water was salty which hurt some of our noses!  But mostly we were fine and we all felt happy and excited.  The lifeguards showed us different strokes like backstroke or freestyle.  Some of us had to duck our heads under the water and blow bubbles.  We cant wait till next time!  For some of us 'next time' is this afternoon because we have swimming lessons too!

Chinese New Year

Today we all went to watch some chinese dancing at the Queen Victoria part of the school because it is the Chinese New Year of the dragon.  We liked the dancing and the man who did kung foo.  He made loud noises!  When we came back to school we made chinese lanterns.

Self Portraits

   

 

Today Room 11 have been drawing self-portaits.  We looked at a mirror and drew a little bit of our face in detail then we looked back at the mirror for the next part.  
We really wanted to see what our faces actually looked like and not what we think they looked like.  
Some of us were surprised that parts of our face were not the shape we thought they were!  We hope you like our work.

     

1st Day!

What a great first day!  It's amazing how quickly students can adapt to new routines, new names, new faces and a new teacher.  Today we have started to think about what rules we want for the class to make sure that we learn as much as possible.  We looked at the first school value, 'Respect', talked about what it means and discussed how we can tell if somebody is showing it.  This also led to some great work on manners and polite words we know.  It turns out that Room 11 know lots of polite words and know lots of ways to show good manners.  Hopefully we will give them lots of practice this year!

Back to School!

Hello! My name is Mr. Bob Miller and I am very happy to say that I am teaching in room 11 this year.  It is a gorgeous classroom, very bright and airy and can't wait to start filling the walls with lots of colourful artwork and interesting pieces of work.  I am very excited to meet all of my lovely students and start to get to know them.  We are going to be learning some fascinating things this year and there is much to look forward to!  I am also keen to meet all of my class' parents, please take a few moments to introduce yourself to me.  I will endeavor to learn all of your names but it may take a little while, please be patient and I apologise in advance to the 'Jane' who I call 'Julie'!

As you can see, Room 11 will be using a 'Class Blog' this year.  It will have lots of class work and news and should be a great way for parents to see the kinds of things we do every day.  There is also a class calendar and a class twitter message board so that you can keep up to date with everything that is coming up.  You can also choose to 'follow' our message board so that you will get a message via twitter or email of any urgent messages (although I haven't tested if this works yet so it may take a couple of tries to get it right!)

Ok, it's time for me to start sorting out the chairs, sharpening the pencils and stapling a couple of posters to the wall. See you all soon!
