Writing Challenge 2!

Our first attempt at class collaboration in writing was a lot of fun.  At first it was hard because it was a big muddle of other people's writing.  So we thought about it and made a table, then everybody knew where they should do their writing.  We actually ended up with some interesting ideas.
Now we are going to really show off!
Click here to open another google document.  There is a big table with lots of places to write. Today we are learning to write better sentences.  Start by writing a few sentences in a box on the left side.  Then look at each others work - you have to do one of the following 4 jobs -->

1) Punctuation Pirates - leave comments for people if they have missed full stops, capital letters or speech marks.

2) Thesauri Masters, leave comments for people if you have thought of another word they could use to make their sentence better

3) Opinionators - Leave a comment to say why you like their sentences.

4) Tense Terminators - Look for problems in the tense of people's writing.  Did they start writing in the past and then switch to present tense?  Maybe they wrote a a word that isn't a real word (like 'swimmed' instead of 'swam')
Leave a comment if you spot any mistakes.

Finally, go back to your own sentence and see what comments people left.  Then write your sentence again in the box on the right side

Writing Challenge...

Click here to visit a Google Document with a picture of a Kiwi and a Lion.  Look carefully at the picture and write a paragraph underneath.  Maybe you could describe what you think is happening, what you think will happen next or maybe write a story or a poem about it.  You could even just write a conversation between the kiwi and the lion.  You will only have 5 minutes, then we will stop, read and comment on other people's work.  Finally we will read the comments other people have left us and try to make our sentences better.
Working together to make something as good as possible is called 'Collaboration!'

Spelling Week 8

CLICK HERE to visit 'Quizlet' and learn what some of these words mean and practice spelling them.  You can also play some games at spelling city. You do not have to write them into sentences this week but spend some time learning them and we will have a test on Friday of 20 random words from the list.  Good luck!

Medieval Day Tomorrow!

Today we have been practicing how numbers can be swapped for shapes and you can still make number sentences with them.  So if a circle = 1 then O + O = 2!
We used a website called 'Weigh it up' - the questions get harder and harder - see how far you can get...

.. we have also been thinking about tomorrow.  Tomorrow is our special Medieval Day!  We need to come dressed like a medieval person - maybe a wizard or a knight or a princess.  We can even just wear a long shirt with a belt around our middle and some plain trousers.  Girls could just wear a long dress and have their hair tied in plaits or in a bun.

Finally, after an extra long assembly we didn't all get a chance to copy our homework words down.  We looked at the prefix 'under' and 'over' - these are the words we thought of and found in a dictionary...
