Room 11 Reporters!

This morning we started a new writing topic called Information Reports.  A reporter is a person that tells you something so an information report is something that tells you information.

We are starting to learn about partitioning in maths which is where you split numbers up to make them easier to add or subtract from each other.

For spelling this week we looked at the prefixes 'Under' and 'Over'  we found words like, 'Overarm', or 'Underwater'
(We all had a good laugh at Underwear!)

This afternoon we finished our submarine pictures.  We cut them out and stuck them onto black paper.  We also did a rubbing of our print stencils and stuck them onto the picture too!

We all live in a Yellow Room11

Today we went to the ict room, there were new computers ! But they were a bit slow.  Then we made are own knowledgenet learning journal.  It was like the blog but for kids . Then Mr Edgerley came to our class and we learned about anzac. Also we listened to a poem it was sad but still cool .

Later on we did some paintings of submarines.  We had to dab the paintbrush to give an awesome effect.  Some of the pictures look really cool. We chose light and bright colours and then added white to them to make them even brighter.

Hydrothermal Vents - Chimneys

Today we learned about Hydrothermal Vents.  They are toxic and sometimes called chimneys because they spout black smoke.  We saw tube-worms and shrimps living around them.  We found out that they could be as hot as 400 degrees C and 25metres tall.  We also found out that some scientists think these vents were where the first life appeared on earth.  Even before dinosaurs and insects.
Then, Johnathan asked, 'Before beards were made?'
'Yes Johnathan,' Mr Miller replied, sighing and rolling his eyes, 'Even before beards!'

Anzac Day - 25th April

Anzac ceremony
We had to be silent because we were thinking about the people who died.  People walked in with NZ, Australian and Turkish flags.  We sang the song 'Sons of Gallipoli'.  It felt very sad but we remembered how generous the soldiers were to fight for us.  We realised that if the soldiers hadn't fought then we might not even be here.

Library - Read the Donkey Man
The Donkey Man book was very interesting and sad but also a little funny.  It was all about a man called Richard Henderson who was a medic in Gallipoli who helped the soldiers who were hurt by giving them medicine and carrying them away from the war on his donkey.

Back to School!

This morning we created a story map  to show what we did in the holiday.  We had to think of keywords that would describe what we did and then we drew a picture to go with them.

This afternoon we spent some time thinking about ANZAC day.  We think it was very sad but generous that those soldiers fought and died so that we could be safe.

Today we went to the field to do fun activities. We got into our group and we went off. Some of the game were a bit hard and some were easy.Room11's favourite game was Mr. Miller's bowling game. After the games we had a drink and lunch!! And its the last day of school WHY!!!!

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Rahab, Calle and Zara who won't be back next term. But some of us thought about our favourite things from this term.

Terri enjoyed swimming in the deep end in Parnell Pools.

Dylan liked art and diving off the diving board in Parnell Pools.

Rici enjoyed being in Mr Miller's class

Lily liked doing the boat/ submarine writing last week.

Kane liked topic when he created fish of his own.

Have a good Easter everybody. See you in 2 weeks!

Easter Poems.

Today Miss Swift was our teacher.  She taught us how to do some Easter poems.  We all coloured them too.  It was a bit hard but we all did it.  Today we also did some art.  It was cool!  Pictures will follow soon!

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's Room 11's dancing!

Today we had a PE lesson with Mr Paine, the sports teacher.  It was fun to learn some new games, like 'Cat's in the Fog' and 'Elephant, Dog, Turtle'.  We also had to show a certain kind of weather scene only by moving our bodies.  For example some of us showed that we were at the beach by pretending to eat ice cream and swim in the sea.  Other groups showed a snowy mountain by pretending to be snow flakes or by skiing.

We have also had a lot of fun today designing and making our very own deep sea board games.  We tried to think about all the things that might go wrong and all the things that could help us on a trip to the bottom of the ocean so that we could write "Action Cards".  It turns out that it was easier to think of things that could go wrong with deep sea exploration than things that would help us.  It also helped us to learn a new word, 'Claustrophobia!'

Run runner run!

Today we did some blog entries.  But we didn't do our blog about our class. Instead we pretended that we had travelled deep down into the ocean and wrote about the things that we saw.

In maths today we tried to solve a tricky problem that seemed easy at first.  3 runners ran a total of 17km.  How far might may each runner run if they each ran an odd number of Kms?

This afternoon we had a syndicate singing assembly and we also talked about friendships and manners.  We also said goodbye to our classmates and friends who are leaving us this week!
